The Somerset Carnivals form the largest illuminated procession in the world and takes place throughout the month of November.'
You can pick your town - Bridgewater takes place on November 2nd, Burnham and Highbridge on November 4th, Weston super Mare on the 8th, North Petherton on the 9th, Shepton Mallet on the 13th, Wells on the 15th and Glastonbury on the 16th!'
As you see the groups parade their finery on magnificent floats, some of which measure 100 feet in length and boast up to 30,000 lights, you're bound to need some sustenance. A Thermos of mulled wine - or'a hot toddy if you fancy something stronger - will help you decide which floats will please the judges. And as brownie troops battle it out with sports groups, dip into your Insulated Bag of hot food (steak and kidney pie works well with baked potatoes) and enjoy your British picnic while you relish the sights, sounds and incredible make-up at a very British institution.
