Picnic Spot - Dunstable Downs
One of our favourite local outdoor spaces is Dunstable Downs in Bedfordshire. Nestled in the heart of the Chilterns Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is the highest point in Bedfordshire.
This vast, exposed landscape can present some weather challenges to walkers - and specifically picnic lovers! - but this in turn provides the ideal conditions for a variety of air sports, from kite flying to gliding. It also offers unrivalled views across this beautiful landscape.
The Downs has excellent facilities. There is a modern visitors centre - with cafe and gift shop - as well as ample parking. Our suggestion for a relaxing afternoon is to park the car, enjoy your sarnies whilst watching the gliders carving up the skies above, before heading out for a walk along the ridge and ending up back at the visitors centre for a nice warming cuppa.
