Picnic Spot - Avon Valley Country Park
Our latest picnic spot recommendation is Avon Valley Country Park, nestled next to the River Avon just outside of Bristol. Avon Valley Country Park is 80 acres of outstanding countryside, complete with wildlife park and huge adventure play area; so there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained whilst the adults take a load off and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The park was originally a cattle farm that dates back as far as the 15th century. After the Douglas family bought the park in 1976, the area was transformed into a fruit farm, before the entire site was dedicated as parkland in 2003. Today, the park is run by the latest Douglas family member to be given the helm, Doug.
The park is open every day of the year, although you may find that the riverside pathway is closed during the winter months due to flooding. There are, frankly, an enormous amount of activities and attractions at Avon Valley Country Park, which is precisely why we recommend this location as an ideal picnic spot for families. Animals remain at the heart of the educational value that the park adds to the local area. During the summer months, the park is home to the south west’s largest maize maze as well as falconry displays. However, as we find ourselves on the wrong side of summer, why not check out the indoor play barn on your next visit, which is open every day 10am until 5:30pm.
