Picnic Spot - Lake Vyrnwy
Lake Vyrnwy is situated in Powys, Wales and ticks all the boxes for a perfect picnic spot.This stunning reservoir was created in the 19th century to supply water to the city of Liverpool. It is surrounded by forests and moorland which is a hotspot for a huge array of wildlife. Rare species of birds are known to be breeding, including the peregrine falcon, the pied flycatcher, and the wood warbler.
The ideal spot for a picnic is to follow the B4393 along the west side of the lake over the dam until you come to an opening with a stunning view across the lake. Take a seat on one of the super-sized picnic tables and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings.
Here is a little extra treat for you
After you have finished your picnic there is a great driving road that you cannot leave the lake without visiting. Follow the B4393 for approximately 3.5 miles along the lake then turn left and follow the road all the way to Dinas Mawddwy. This road winds up and down the hills taking you further and further away from civilisation until you reach the top where you will be greeted with this perfect photo opportunity.
Lake Vyrnwy and the surrounding areas is a hidden gem in the heart of Wales and definitely worth exploring.
